MySci Blog

It’s an exciting time for the MySci team, as we are proud to announce the launch of our very own blog. However, you should know that we use the term “our” blog somewhat reluctantly. That’s because it will, in a way, be “your” blog.  Click here for more...

MySci professional development for teachers heads to St. Louis Zoo, Forest Park

Two out of the four MySci teacher professional development (PD) days were completed this week. We trained 52 teachers who are new to MySci, as well as 30 returning teachers. As you may know, MySci gives early elementary students the chance to study science through inquiry. And this year, we took part of our PD on the road to give the TEACHERS the opportunity to learn through inquiry.

This week, some teachers enjoyed learning about watersheds during a Water Ecology field trip to Forest Park. Beautiful weather and good company contributed to the success of their fishing experience! In addition, macro-invertebrate sampling and water quality testing were explained and experienced. Other teachers took part in Animals Around the World and deepened their content knowledge about habitats and adaptations during a fun-filled morning at the St. Louis Zoo.

Only two training days are left for this school year, Oct. 27 and 28, and they both are for returning teachers. Field trips that can be experienced during this PD include Under Our Feet, in which participants will learn about earth science concepts at the Saint Louis Science Center, Heaps of Seeds, in which we will learn that all parts of a future plant are stored in its seed, and Animals Around the World is being offered again. Should be a lot of fun!
