MySci Blog

It’s an exciting time for the MySci team, as we are proud to announce the launch of our very own blog. However, you should know that we use the term “our” blog somewhat reluctantly. That’s because it will, in a way, be “your” blog.  Click here for more...

ROBINSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EXPLORES SCIENCE WITH MYSCIi

ST. LOUIS (April 8, 2009) - Students at Robinson Elementary School, 803 Couch Ave. in Kirkwood, will learn about Missouri’s natural formations and wildlife without leaving school when they step aboard the MySci Investigation Station coming to Robinson on April 13, 14 and 15.

The Investigation Station is a traveling interactive science experience designed to engage students and teachers in science. The 37-foot custom built trailer features a Missouri woodlands area; a laboratory room with live and preserved plant, rock and animal specimens; and a replica of a Missouri limestone cave.

According to gifted education teacher Steven Pursley, Robinson teachers and students in kindergarten through second-grade have been working on a specially prepared science curriculum that corresponds with the district’s science grade-level expectations.

“Our goal in bringing MySci to Robinson was to reinforce what our younger students are learning in science with a unique experience,” says Pursley, who coordinated the MySci visit. “The Investigation Station’s innovative exhibits incorporate many different learning styles through climbing, crawling, seeing, hearing and smelling activities. We are thrilled that our students will have the opportunity to learn science in this exciting way.”

Robinson parents are invited to visit the traveling museum after school until 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 14. Teachers for grades 3-5 may also sign-up their classes for tours of the Investigation Station.

MySci, funded by Monsanto Fund, is a collaborative effort among the following institutions: Washington University in St. Louis, the Saint Louis Science Center, the Missouri Botanical Garden and the Saint Louis Zoo. MySci’s mission is to enhance a sense of wonder and interest in science for children and their teachers. For more information about MySci Investigation Station, visit www.mysci.info.
